How To Identify Adulterated Turmeric At Home: The joy of a wedding in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh turned into mourning when the bride died after the Haldi ceremony and the groom’s health suddenly deteriorated. This incident has forced people to think whether turmeric, which has been considered a symbol of medicine and purity in Indian homes for years, is now becoming dangerous due to adulteration? The ritual of turmeric in marriage is not just a tradition but is also considered a symbol of good health and auspiciousness. But now experts are warning that not every turmeric sold in the market is pure and safe.
Turmeric is used extensively in Indian homes
Actually, turmeric is used in almost every house in India. It is used in everything from food to skin care and home remedies. Even in Ayurveda, turmeric is considered to reduce inflammation and fight bacteria. But now at many places artificial colors and harmful substances are being added to turmeric, so that its color looks brighter and people can buy it easily. According to experts, if such adulterated turmeric enters the body for a long time, it can have a negative effect on the digestion system and overall health.

How can you identify fake turmeric?
FSSAI has suggested an easy water test to identify turmeric, which can be done at home in a few minutes. For this, take water in two clean glasses and add some turmeric powder in it. After this, leave the mixture without stirring for a few minutes. If the turmeric is pure then it will slowly settle down and the water will appear light yellow. But if the water immediately turns bright yellow, then understand that artificial colors have been added to it. This small test can help you identify adulterated turmeric.

What things should be kept in mind while buying?
FSSAI says that people should also keep some other things in mind while buying spices. Always buy turmeric from trusted brands or trusted stores. Avoid taking turmeric that is more bright yellow than necessary, as this may be a sign of adulteration. Be sure to check the FSSAI certification on the packet and store the spices properly so that their quality is maintained.
