Oats And Mineral Absorption Issues: Nowadays, oats have been considered the biggest symbol of healthy eating. From morning breakfast to light dinner, its presence is visible everywhere. The information written on the packet states that it is rich in fiber and fitness routines often start with oats. But the real question is, are oats equally beneficial for every person? According to doctors, the answer is not so simple. Oats definitely have benefits, but it also has some disadvantages which are less discussed.
Are oats beneficial for everyone?
Oats got the status of “superfood” because it contains a soluble fiber called beta-glucan. It slows down digestion and helps reduce cholesterol over time. For this reason it is considered good for heart health. Dr Alok Kumar Singh told TOI that “Beta-glucan helps in reducing cholesterol, but its effect also depends on the form in which you are eating oats and the sensitivity of your body.”
Research also believes that regular consumption can reduce LDL cholesterol. Nutrition expert Anshul Singh says that the fiber present in it improves digestion and keeps the stomach full for a long time.
How do oats work?
But not all types of oats work the same. Especially instant oats are digested quickly, due to which blood sugar can increase rapidly. According to Dr. Singh, due to being highly processed, they increase glucose rapidly in the body. Flavored oats also contain extra sugar, which can increase the problem. This may be a matter of concern for people with diabetes or insulin resistance. In comparison, steel-cut or rolled oats are considered better because they digest slowly.
Fiber is not beneficial for everyone
Oats are high in fiber, which is not comfortable for everyone. Taking too much suddenly can cause problems like flatulence, gas or pain. Dr. Singh explains that some people have digestive problems due to this. Apart from this, oats also contain phytates, which can reduce the absorption of essential minerals like iron and zinc. According to Anshul Singh, if more oats are consumed daily and there is no variety in the food, then this problem can increase.

not safe for everyone
Oats are gluten-free, but still not safe for everyone. Many times these are processed in places where wheat is also produced, due to which there is a possibility of adulteration. This may be risky for people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. Apart from this, people who have weak digestion or do not have blood sugar under control should also be careful.
