Early Signs Of High Cholesterol: High cholesterol is often called the “silent killer” because it increases silently in the body and shows no visible symptoms for a long time. Many people continue to live a normal life for years, but fat keeps accumulating in their arteries, which can later cause serious diseases like heart attack and stroke. The most worrying thing is that most people come to know about it only when the situation has worsened.
High cholesterol in about 11.3 percent people above 20 years of age
According to recent data, now not only the elderly but also young people are increasingly falling prey to high cholesterol. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2021-2023, about 11.3 percent of people above 20 years of age in America were found to have high cholesterol. Experts believe that it can start even at the age of 20 or 30.
Conditions like heart disease or stroke may occur.
Dr. Ashish Kumar Govil, Associate Director, Department of Interventional Cardiology at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Noida, says that high cholesterol often keeps increasing without any symptoms. He says that by the time people come to know about it, it can cause serious problems like heart disease or stroke. Therefore, regular checkups are very important from an early age.
Symptoms appear in eyes, elbows, knees and hands
According to doctors, sometimes the eyes also start indicating high cholesterol. The appearance of a gray or white circle around the pupil of the eye is called “corneal arcus”, which may indicate increased cholesterol in the body. Apart from this, small yellow bumps or lumps under the skin, called xanthomas, can also be a sign of high cholesterol. These often appear around the eyes, elbows, knees and hands.
This is an alarm bell for 50 year old people
A 2021 study published in the Journal of Translational Medicine found that people who show signs such as corneal arcs and xanthomas may have a higher risk of coronary artery disease. It was also said in the research that if such circles are seen around the eyes of people below 50 years of age, then they should not be ignored.

Due to which deficiency is the problem occurring?
According to Dr. Govil, bad lifestyle is becoming the biggest reason behind high cholesterol at a young age. Processed food, high fat food, lack of physical activity, smoking and continuously increasing stress increase its risk. Obesity, type-2 diabetes and family history also play an important role in this. Experts say that high cholesterol can be detected only through blood test. Therefore, if someone in the family has this problem or such signs are seen in the body, then a lipid profile test should be done in time.
