NDMA Emergency Alert: Today, on May 2, 2026, at around 11:41 pm, an emergency alert suddenly came with a loud sound on the mobile phones of crores of people across the country. Many people got scared and some started asking on social media what is happening? But this was no real threat. This National Disaster Management Authority i.e. NDMA It was a nationwide test conducted to test the cell broadcast alert system.
Did the message come on the phone?
on the phone screen “Extremely Severe Alert” It was written and along with it was the message that India has started cell broadcast service using indigenous technology, through which citizens will be able to get immediate information about the disaster. It was clearly written in the message that this is a test message and the public does not need to take any action. The message was issued by the Government of India.
At which places did this alert come?
This test will be held in Delhi-NCR and capitals of all states and union territories (timings may be different in some places). Border areas and election-bound states were kept out of this test.

Why was this test done?
The aim of the government was to check how effective this system is in providing immediate necessary information to the people during disasters. Indigenous technology was used in this test which India has developed itself. Fire and disaster management departments of many states including Telangana had also issued press notes in advance to make people aware about this.
Don’t worry, everything is normal
If this alert comes on your phone then it is completely normal. This was just to test the system, there was no real emergency. NDMA had appealed to the people to remain calm and to inform their family and friends about this in advance so that no one panics.
