Recharge Plan: If you are troubled by expensive recharge plans, you may get relief soon. Actually, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed such a rule, after which telecom companies will have to launch cheap plans only for voice calls and SMS. This means that customers who do not use mobile data will not have to pay for internet in the recharge plan. Let us tell you that TRAI had made such an attempt earlier also, which was not completely successful. Now once again the regulator is considering changing the rules.
Will recharge plans become cheaper by changing the rules?
TRAI had earlier ordered telecom companies to launch special tariff vouchers for calling and SMS. Following this, companies had launched some plans, but TRAI believes that these options are very limited and their prices are high even after removing the data benefit. Seeing that these orders are not being followed properly, now TRAI is going to tighten the rules, which is expected to provide relief to mobile users.
What does the proposed rules say?
Under the proposed rules, all telecom companies will have to introduce voice and SMS plans with a validity period equal to their existing bundled packs. This means that users may soon get many options for plans without internet. TRAI believes that this will help in fixing fair pricing.
How long can the rules be implemented?
It may take some time for the new rules to be implemented. Now a change in the rules has been proposed by TRAI. Feedback has been sought from all stakeholders on this proposal by April 28. After this, there will be a discussion on whether to make changes in the rules or not. In such a situation, it is still a long process.
Recharge plans increased the burden on customers’ pockets
For some time now, companies have been using a new way to make recharge plans expensive. Instead of directly increasing the price of their plans, companies are reducing the benefits of their plans. That means it is giving less benefits to the users at the same price. In recent times, BSNL and Jio have reduced the validity of many of their recharge plans. This is increasing the burden on customers’ pockets.
