Sheshnag Drone: During the World Defense Show 2026 held in Riyadh, India’s private defense sector presented a technology that caught everyone’s attention. The Sheshnag 150 swarm drone developed by NewSpace Research and Technologies has been introduced as a loitering munition capable of striking at depths of up to 1,000 kilometers. This step shows that India’s unmanned warfare capability is no longer limited to limited strategic needs.
Long range and heavy firepower
Sheshnag 150 has been designed as a link between small drones and expensive cruise missiles. According to the company, it is capable of carrying a warhead weighing 25 to 40 kg, which can target strong and important targets. Its flight duration is said to be about five hours, which indicates that it may use a small engine instead of batteries.
Its delta-wing structure favors stable flight and long range. It is claimed that it can deliver accurate strikes within a radius of about five metres. If this accuracy remains intact in the tests, then it can be kept in the category of conventional guided missiles.
Attacks not alone but in groups
The specialty of Sheshnag 150 is not just its range or payload but its swarm i.e. group working model. It has not been designed as a stand-alone weapon but as part of a coordinated attack system.
Multiple drones launched simultaneously can play different roles. Some will act as decoys to confuse enemy radars, some will gather intelligence or disrupt communications while the main attack drones will deliver precise strikes on targets. With this type of strategy, pressure is created on the enemy air defense system from multiple directions simultaneously.
New link in India’s strike capability
From a military point of view, this system fills an important void. Cruise missiles are expensive and limited in number, while conventional tactical drones cannot reach long distances. With a strike range of 1,000 km, it would be possible to attack strategic targets like command centres, air defense bases, ammunition depots and air bases without putting piloted aircraft at risk.
No official purchase agreement has been announced at this time, but the program is said to be developed with private investment and is also being prepared for export.
