This salt is later used in homes and is also sold in the market. There is a belief in this community that after the birth of a child, it is necessary to lick the salt. In this way, even after the death of a person, salt is kept in his mouth. Use of salt is also considered mandatory in weddings, festivals and other family events. What do experts say from health point of view?
Health experts say that it is not good to give salt to a newborn baby in the initial months after birth. According to the World Health Organization and doctors, children should be given only mother’s milk from birth to 6 months. After this, solid food is started, even then it is advisable to avoid salt and sugar in the beginning. Doctors say that the kidneys of small children are not fully developed. Therefore, excess salt can be harmful for them. This puts pressure on the kidneys and may increase the risk of problems like high blood pressure in future.
When should salt be given to children?
According to health experts, children should start giving limited amount of salt only after the age of 1 year. For children aged 1 to 3 years, the daily amount of salt should be kept very low, so that it does not have a negative effect on their body.
