How to Prevent Stomach Cancer: Stomach cancer is a serious disease, which affects millions of people around the world every year. Although genetic factors and environmental factors also play a role in this, but the impact of diet and lifestyle is considered to be the biggest. By making small changes in daily habits, stomach health can be improved and the risk of cancer can be reduced to a great extent. Right food, cleanliness, and timely checkups help in keeping the stomach healthy in the long run.

4 easy ways to reduce the risk of stomach cancer

Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist trained from AIIMS, Harvard and Stanford, has recently shared some easy and effective measures on social media to prevent stomach cancer. He says that if precautions are taken in time, it is possible to prevent this disease.

If cancer is identified in the early stages, treatment is possible.

Include cruciferous vegetables in your diet
Vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and kale are considered very beneficial for the stomach. An element called sulforaphane is found in them, which helps in fighting cancer. These vegetables work to remove toxic substances from the body, strengthen the liver and protect cells from damage. Steaming them, lightly roasting them or eating them as a vegetable strengthens the digestion system. Apart from this, Vitamin C, K and folate present in them are also helpful in increasing immunity.

Be sure to add garlic to your food
Garlic is considered a treasure of health in both Ayurveda and modern science. The allicin element present in it is full of anti-cancer and anti-bacterial properties. Garlic protects the inner lining of the stomach and prevents the growth of harmful bacteria, especially Helicobacter pylori. You can include garlic in soup, lentils, vegetables or salad. Raw garlic is most beneficial, but even when lightly cooked, its properties remain to a great extent.

Stay away from processed meat
Processed foods like bacon, sausage, hot dogs and deli meats contain chemicals like nitrates and nitrites, which can increase the risk of stomach cancer. Their excessive consumption causes bloating and loss in digestion. Dr. Sethi advises to eat fresh and light food instead of processed meat. Chicken, fish, pulses and plant-based proteins are better options. It is also important to avoid eating fresh home-cooked food and burnt meat.

Get tested for Helicobacter pylori
A bacteria called H. pylori causes infection in the stomach, which can later lead to gastritis, ulcers and cancer. If you have frequent problems like stomach ache, burning sensation, gas, nausea or indigestion, then definitely get yourself checked. It can be treated with antibiotics and medicines in time. Drinking clean water, eating clean food and regular health checkups play an important role in keeping the stomach safe.
