iPhone 17 Series: Apple Inc. Has decided to increase its iPhone production in India faster. According to media reports, the company will assemble all the models of the upcoming iPhone 17 series, which will also include premium pro versions, will assemble in five local factories in India. Two of these new plants have started recently. This will be the first time that manufacturing will be in India from the beginning of all new iPhone models.
Trying to reduce dependence on China
This move of Apple is part of its major strategy that aims to reduce dependence on China for the US market and protect against rising tariff risks. The company is already removing a large part of iPhones from China and being made from India.
Tata and Foxcony’s big role
According to Bloomberg report, two factories are playing an important role in this expansion which includes the Hasur (Tamil Nadu) plant of the Tata Group and the Hub near Foxcon’s Bangalore Airport. According to experts, in the next two years, the Tata Group can handle almost half of the iPhone production in India. Tata is emerging as the fastest growing partner of Apple.
Increase in iPhone exports from India
There has also been a sharp jump in iPhone exports from India. Between April and July 2025, India had a $ 7.5 billion iPhone ship while the figure was $ 17 billion in the last financial year. That is, India has now become an important part of Apple’s supply chain.
America-China tension and Apple’s challenge
Business tension between the US and China is creating new challenges for Apple. US President Donald Trump recently said, “If Apple wants to create an iPhone for American people, then they should be made in America, not in China or India.” Although the smartphones are still survived by heavy tariffs, Apple estimates that in the current quarter it will have to lose about $ 1.1 billion due to the tariff.
America is becoming the biggest market
According to canalis data, America has now become Apple’s largest export destination from India. In the first half of 2024, the US share was 53%, which increased to 78% by June 2025.
