The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 was announced by the Ministry of Education today. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan officially released the ranking in a press conference. The official website of NIRF has been made available by the Ministry of Education on nirfindia.org. This year too, IIT Madras number one position in the overall category. This institute is holding this rank for the 10th consecutive time.
Like every year, this time too, students and parents were eagerly waiting for which institute will reach the top and which colleges would get recognition for better performance. NIRF ranking is considered to be a major measure of the quality of higher education institutions across the country and it is helpful for students in making a right choice of career.
In which categories was the ranking declared?
This time the ranking includes many categories including engineering, medical, management, dental (dental), pharmacy, law and research. Also, the ranking of institutions has been fixed in the university and overall categories. This list will make it easier for students to understand which college is better in terms of studies, research and placement. This is the reason that every year millions of students wait for Nirf rankings.

How is Nirf rankings decided?
Nirf means National Institutional Ranking Framework evaluates higher education institutions on certain criteria. Each institute is tested on five major parameters and rank is fixed by giving marks on the basis of these.
- Teaching & Learning – 30% weightage: Faculty, student -teacher ratio, infrastructure and quality of studies are seen.
- Research and Professional Practice – 30% weightage: It contains research papers, patents, publications and projects.
- Graduation outcome – 20% weightage: After completing the degree of students, success rates, placements and admission to higher education are part of this part.
- Outreach & Inclusivity – 10% Vetage: It pays attention to the participation of students in different classes and fields, percentage of female students and diversity.
- Perception – 10% weightage: In this, the reputation of the institute is measured in the eyes of industry, academic world and society.
