MBBS has been done from Russia, can you practice in India? Know this rule before doing medical

Every year thousands of students of India dream of becoming doctors and go out of the boundaries of the country to study. Many students turn to Russia for medical education. The reason for this is also clear that the cost of studies and living here is less than India.

But after returning to MBBS degrees from abroad, the way to become a doctor in India is not as straightforward. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has made strict rules for this so that only qualified and trained doctors in the country can practice. Come, let us know how the whole journey of becoming a doctor in India after MBBS from Russia.

University election and degree recognition

The first step is to ensure that the foreign university from which you are going to do MBBS is recognized by NMC. The NMC periodically releases the list of countries and colleges whose degree is valid in India. The duration of the course should be at least 54 months i.e. four and a half years. It is necessary to have English language of studies.

Pass FMGE exam

Every student who comes with MBBS degree abroad has to pass Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) to practice in India. The pattern of this exam is divided into two parts, in which a total of 300 objective questions are asked. It is necessary to bring at least 150 marks i.e. 50% score to pass. This exam is held twice a year in June and December. But to sit in it, it is necessary that you have completed the necessary internship of the country with which you have studied.

Completion of internship in India

The next step after passing FMGE is to do 12 months Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) in India. This internship student will have to do this in a NMC recognized hospital or medical college. If you have already completed one year internship in the country with which you have done MBBS and it is according to the rules of NMC, then there may be no need to do internship again in India. After the end of the internship, you will be given a certificate, which is necessary for further registration.

Registration and permanent license

As soon as the internship is completed, you can register in NMC or State Medical Council (SMC) of your state. For this, you have to submit some documents. These include MBBS degree, FMGE Pass Certificate, Internship Completion Certificate ID and other documents from foreign universities. As soon as the registration is completed, you will get a permanent medical license in India, so that you can legally practice as a doctor.
