Big news has come for engineering students and competitive exams. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has released the syllabus of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering i.e. GATE 2026. When will GATE 2026 exam be done?
According to the official schedule, the Gate 2026 examination will start from 7 February 2026. It will be held in four days – 7, 8, 14 and 15 February 2026. The result of the examination will be declared on 19 March 2026. The most important thing is that the marks of the gate will remain valid for three years from the date of the result. This means that you can use these digits in the coming years also.
When will the registration start?
Registration for Gate 2026 will start from 25 August 2025. Candidates will be able to apply till 25 September 2025 without late fees. Even after that application can be made, but late fees will have to be paid for this. The entire process of application will be online.

The score of the gate is not only used for PG entry, but also for recruitment in many government and public sector companies (PSUs). Many well -known institutions and companies consider the gate score to be an important criteria for shortlisting of candidates.
What is new this time?
This time a special change has been made in the syllabus. A new section of ‘Energy Science’ has been added to the engineering science paper. Apart from this, there will be a total of 30 question papers, in which candidates can choose one or two papers. However, if someone gives two papers, then it will be according to the fixed pairing.
Exam pattern
- Total marks: 100
- language English
- General Aptitude (GA): 15 points in all papers
- Rest Paper: 85 marks for subject matter
Marking scheme
- 1 or 2 marks for the correct answer (as per question)
- 1/3 point deduction on 1 -digit wrong answer
- 2/3 points deducted on wrong answer with 2 points
