What is heart attack?
According to the American Heart Association, an organization that provides information about the heart, a heart attack occurs when there is a blockage in one of the arteries that supply blood to the heart. Because of this, blood and oxygen do not reach a part of the heart. If the blockage is not removed in time, the muscles of that area gradually start getting damaged.
Symptoms of heart attack can sometimes be sudden and severe, but in many cases it also starts gradually, such as mild chest pain, pressure, shortness of breath or fatigue. The special thing is that during a heart attack the heart does not stop beating. Its symptoms in women may be different from those of men, so it often becomes difficult to identify.

What is sudden cardiac arrest?
Sudden cardiac arrest happens suddenly and sometimes occurs without any warning. In this, the electrical system that controls the heartbeat fails, due to which the heart starts beating irregularly or stops completely. In such a situation, the heart is unable to supply blood to the vital organs of the body like the brain and lungs. In this, the person immediately becomes unconscious, no pulse is found and if help is not provided within a few minutes, there is a risk of death.
What is the connection between the two?
Heart attack and cardiac arrest may be related. Many times cardiac arrest can occur during or after a heart attack. However, not every heart attack turns into cardiac arrest. But it is certain that the risk of cardiac arrest increases with a heart attack. Apart from this, other heart related problems can also cause cardiac arrest by disturbing the heart rhythm.

Sudden cardiac arrest is a life-threatening condition and immediate action is necessary. In such a situation, giving cardiopulmonary resuscitation i.e. CPR can save life. By getting CPR on time, a person’s chances of survival can be doubled or tripled. It is very important to understand the difference between these two heart related conditions. Identification at the right time and immediate help plays the most important role in saving lives.
