On the occasion of Diwali, there was a sale on platforms like Flipkart and Amazon. In these sales, huge discounts were being offered on the most expensive products. Similarly, huge discounts were being offered on Zepto and Swiggy on the occasion of the festival. However, there were some platforms where the price of the product was shown lower after the discount, but more money was charged from the customers than its actual price by imposing hidden fees at the time of ordering. The Government of India has also given a warning regarding this drip pricing scam. If you too have become a victim of such a scam, you can complain about it.
What is drip pricing scam?
Many online platforms use such dark patterns to scam customers. In this, a discount is first shown on a product, but while ordering it, the customer has to pay more money. For example, suppose a platform is showing a smartwatch for Rs 1,000 after discount, but when the customer adds it to the cart and orders it, then its price will increase due to many hidden charges. Initially customers are not informed about these charges. This is called drip pricing scam.
How to complain about this?
If you have also been a victim of such a scam or have had to pay more money on a product even after getting a discount, then you can complain about it. In such cases, National Consumer Helpline can help you. For this you just have to call number 1915 and lodge a complaint about the product and platform. After this, National Consumer Helpline will investigate the matter and help you. In this way, you can improve the experience of online shopping and ordering for yourself as well as for other people.
