There has been a partnership between Google and Apple that has lasted for many years. Under this, Apple’s foundation models will now be built on Google’s Gemini AI model and cloud infrastructure. Google has announced this partnership by posting on X. Google said that this partnership has been done to make Apple Intelligence features better and Siri more personalized in iPhone, iPad and MacBook. The statement said that the new version of Siri will be launched this year.
Features of Apple Intelligence will run on Google Gemini
According to Google’s official statement, Apple has chosen Google’s AI technology after considering several options. Apple found that Gemini could provide the most capable foundation for its upcoming AI projects. This means that now the features of Apple Intelligence will be built on Google’s model. However, they will continue to run on-device through Apple’s private cloud compute framework. Under the partnership, Google will support Apple’s AI workloads, but Apple will have complete control over the integration of these models in the software. Also Google said that Apple will not share any data with it for advertising and profiling.
Privacy will not be affected
As far as possible, Apple will process user requests on-device. If cloud compute is required for any complex task, then that request will be routed through Apple’s private cloud compute server, which will not affect the company’s privacy architecture.
Effect of partnership will be visible on Siri
The first visible outcome of this partnership will be improvement in Siri. Apple has already confirmed that the new version of Siri will use a new foundation model, which will allow it to understand user intent and on-device context. Apart from Siri, new features can also be seen in writing tools, image generation and other automation due to Gemini model.
