Artificial Intelligence: According to the report of Thoughtworks, India has now become the leader in the whole world in adopting Artificial Intelligence models. Especially the use of Large Language Model i.e. LLM has increased fastest in India. The highest monthly and daily active users of popular AI apps like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity are now in India, which clearly shows the country’s strong presence.
Cheap data and large population are making India an AI hub
According to the BofA report, this rapid growth of India has not been possible due to any one reason but due to the combination of many big factors. India has the second largest online population in the world where 70 to 75 crore people use mobile internet. Along with this, cheap data plans have made access to AI tools very easy. Today, users in India are able to use 20 to 30 GB of data per month by spending only about two dollars, which is much cheaper than many countries.
India ready for young population and technology
A large part of India’s internet user population is youth. According to the report, more than 60 percent of internet users are below 35 years of age. Many of these people understand and speak English, which makes them fast adopters of new digital tools and AI apps. This is the reason why AI in India is not limited to experiments only, but is becoming a part of everyday life and work.
AI is getting a boost from telecom companies
The role of telecom companies has also been said to be important in popularizing AI. BofA report states that companies like Jio and Bharti Airtel are giving free subscription to paid versions of AI apps like Gemini and Perplexity to their customers. This is giving users the opportunity to use advanced AI tools without spending much, while both AI companies and telecom operators are getting their own benefits.
AI is increasing efficiency in studies and work
Users in India are using AI tools not just for entertainment but also for studies, skill development and increasing productivity. With AI models available in different Indian languages, the language barrier is also reducing. BofA considers this as democratization of AI i.e. the process of increasing the reach of technology to every class.
India can become a testing ground for Agentic AI
The report also says that in the coming time, India can become a big testing platform for the next generation AI technology, i.e. Agentic AI. Such AI systems are capable of thinking, planning and carrying out work on their own. India’s large and diverse user base will make it easier to test these technologies in real-world conditions before they are launched globally.
Global partnerships can increase with Indian companies
BofA believes that in future, global AI companies can work with Indian firms on service and fulfillment model. This model may be somewhat similar to how AI agents are working together with travel platforms in America. Overall, the report indicates that the next big story of AI may come out of India.
